Function
Galactose 1-phosphate is classified as a member of the monosaccharide phosphates. Monosaccharide phosphates are monosaccharides comprising a phosphated group linked to the carbohydrate unit. Galactose 1-phosphate is an intermediate in the galactose metabolism and nucleotide sugars metabolism pathways (KEGG). It is formed from galactose by galactokinase. (Wikipeida). Galactose 1-phosphate is considered to be soluble (in water) and acidic.
